Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hajia Aishat Basiru, the beloved mother of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru. The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to Senator Basiru, the entire Basiru family, and all loved ones of the deceased, describing the loss of a mother as a deeply painful experience.

In a statement issued on Sunday, June 28, 2026, by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described Hajia Basiru as a devoted Muslim whose life was defined by faith, values, and service. He urged the family to take solace in her exemplary life and the enduring legacy she left behind. "On behalf of the Government and the good people of Osun State, I extend my sincere condolences to Senator Ajibola Basiru and the entire Basiru family. May Almighty Allah grant Mama Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give the family the fortitude to bear this painful loss. Ameen," the Governor was quoted as saying.

Governor Adeleke prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives her shortcomings, accept her good deeds, grants her eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and comforts the bereaved family. He also prayed for Senator Basiru and the entire family to be granted the strength and patience to bear the irreparable loss. The condolence message comes amid a period of deepening political realignment in Osun State, where Governor Adeleke, a member of the Accord Party, and Senator Basiru, a prominent APC chieftain, belong to opposing political camps. Despite the political differences, the Governor's gesture underscores a tradition of extending empathy across party lines in moments of personal loss, a practice that has been observed among Nigerian political leaders regardless of affiliation.

The death of Hajia Basiru is a significant loss to the Basiru family and the larger political community. Senator Ajibola Basiru, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, has been a prominent figure in the APC since its formation and currently serves as its National Secretary. Senator Basiru served as a member of the 9th Senate, representing Osun Central Senatorial District from 2019 to 2023, where he was instrumental in shaping key legislation and was also a member of the APC National Caucus.

Governor Adeleke, who was at a political rally in the state on the same day, took time to personally extend his condolences to Senator Basiru's family, further demonstrating that the gesture was personal and heartfelt. The Governor has also been actively engaged in political campaigns across the state, including the recent inauguration of the Adeleke Campaign Network in Olorunda, Osogbo, where he mobilised supporters ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The Governor's message concluded with prayers for the deceased and the bereaved family. "May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings, accept her good deeds, and grant her eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus," the statement read, reaffirming the Governor's solidarity with the Basiru family during this time of grief.
