The embattled self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, has broken his silence with a series of startling revelations, challenging the Federal Government's narrative that the agency is fictitious and demanding a thorough independent investigation into how the controversial body secured a ₦1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 national budget.
In a wide-ranging interview with social media commentator VeryDarkMan on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, Adeyemi made a compelling case that has deepened the mystery surrounding the phantom agency. He declared his readiness to cooperate fully with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which President Bola Tinubu has directed to investigate the matter and submit a report within 30 days. "I am willing and ready to help security agencies or any panel set up by Mr President to unravel the truth. Any moment from now, I will go to the DSS or the police to submit all the documents I have," Adeyemi stated.
Key Revelation: The Budget and His Detention
Adeyemi's most significant revelation challenges the Presidency's insistence that the PFIPC never existed. He questioned how an agency that was allegedly fake found its way into the national budget. "When the Presidency, through the Chief of Staff, said the agency does not exist, I wondered how an agency that found its way into the national budget could suddenly be described as fake," he said.
More strikingly, Adeyemi disclosed that he was in police detention for 23 days during the period the budget was being prepared. He was arrested on 27 October 2025 and released on 19 November 2025, following a petition allegedly filed by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. "I was in detention during the period for the preparation of the budget. I did not defend the budget, and nobody went for the defence. That's why I am confused about how the budget that nobody defended still finds its way into the national budget," he said.
Denies Meeting Gbajabiamila
In a significant shift from his earlier claims, Adeyemi denied ever having a one-on-one meeting with the Chief of Staff. When asked by VeryDarkMan whether he had at any point met Gbajabiamila personally, he replied, "No". However, he said he spoke with someone he believed to be the Chief of Staff on about three occasions over the telephone through his late associate, Dolapo Tanimola.
Adeyemi admitted he could not independently verify the identity of the person at the other end of the line. When VeryDarkMan suggested it was possible Gbajabiamila was not involved, Adeyemi agreed. "I wouldn't say he is lying and I wouldn't say he is saying the truth," he stated.
Claims Attack, Vows Cooperation
Adeyemi also claimed he survived an attack by gunmen near Zuma Rock in September 2025 and maintained that his involvement with the council was driven by a desire to attract foreign investment to Nigeria. "I don't really have a negative plan. It's all about passion for the country. That agency is to bring foreign investors to Nigeria and make Nigeria a preferred destination for investment," he said.
He welcomed President Tinubu's directive to the ICPC to investigate the matter, saying an independent probe would reveal those responsible. "I wouldn't say he's lying, and I wouldn't say he's telling the truth. That is why I requested that Mr President set up an investigative panel to unravel the truth, so we will know those involved," he said.
The controversy has deepened following reports that the PFIPC's signage still hangs at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja, while the agency's N1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 budget remains a subject of intense scrutiny. Adeyemi is currently standing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. He is expected to return to court on 27 July 2026.
