Seven kidnapping victims have regained their freedom, including a driver from Egbe who was abducted along the Ilorin Road about three months ago. The release, which was confirmed on Thursday, September 3, 2026, by the local community platform Egbe Mekun Parrot, has brought a wave of relief to families and communities in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Egbe driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was released and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Six other victims were also released towards the evening after spending varying periods in captivity. According to information available, the six victims were abducted from different locations within Yagba West LGA. Some were kidnapped around Ogbe, while others were abducted from Odo-Ara and Ejiba communities.
The circumstances surrounding their release, including whether any ransom was paid, remain unclear as of the time of filing this report. The latest development has brought relief to affected families and communities, which have continued to endure concerns over insecurity and kidnapping in the area.
The Egbe community and surrounding areas in Yagba West LGA have been plagued by a series of abduction incidents in recent months. In June 2026, armed assailants abducted five members of a family near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe. In July 2026, two children and a shoemaker were released after spending 49 days in captivity. The recurring incidents have forced the Kogi State Government to temporarily close markets and motor parks in several communities, including Ogbe, Ejiba, Odo Ara, and Oke Ere.
The release of the seven victims marks a significant moment for the communities, but it also highlights the persistent security challenges facing Yagba West LGA. As the victims begin their recovery, residents are calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further abductions and ensure the safety of lives and property in the area.
