Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims following a fierce gun battle with suspected terrorists along the Wasagu-Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The operation, conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, was triggered by credible intelligence regarding the presence of suspected terrorists at Mehinua Village along the road.
Acting on the intelligence, troops of Sector 2 swiftly mobilised to the area, where they made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with a high volume of fire. The soldiers brought superior firepower to bear, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon their victims. Following the engagement, the troops successfully secured the location and rescued all six kidnapped victims unharmed.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, confirmed the operation in a statement. According to the statement, the rescued victims and a vehicle recovered during the operation were subsequently handed over to the relevant community authorities for further necessary action. The successful rescue operation demonstrates the resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to safeguard the lives and property of law-abiding citizens across the Joint Operations Area.
The operation underscores the importance of timely intelligence and rapid military response in tackling kidnapping and other criminal activities along vulnerable routes in the North-West.
