The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old female victim in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, while an intensive manhunt has been launched to track down his fleeing accomplice.
The arrest followed a formal report lodged at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at about 10:10 a.m., by the victim's mother regarding an incident that occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at their residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo. Upon receipt of the report, police operatives immediately visited and secured the scene of the crime to gather crucial evidentiary material. In line with standard procedures and survivor-centered care, investigating officers promptly escorted the victim to the General Hospital for comprehensive medical examination and care.
Following preliminary inquiries, operatives successfully tracked down and arrested one suspect, identified as Ayomide Kamula, aged 20. The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation. However, the police have intensified robust operational measures and intelligence-led searches to track down and apprehend the fleeing co-suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, who remains at large. The case is currently being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, while strongly condemning the incident, described sexual and gender-based violence as an egregious crime that will not be tolerated under any circumstance. The CP reiterated the Command's firm commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against sexual offences across the state. He assured the victim's family and the general public that a thorough, discreet investigation is underway and that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the fleeing suspect is brought to book to face the full weight of the law.
