Several supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Benue State sustained injuries on Saturday, October 10, 2026, after two buses conveying them to the party’s North-Central mega rally collided in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
The accident occurred along the Government House route in Lafia as the supporters travelled to attend the rally organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dan-Morgan Ihomun, spokesperson for the faction of the APC in Benue State loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, confirmed the incident.
According to Ihomun, the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, leaving some passengers injured. He said the victims were taken to hospitals in Lafia for medical attention.
He also confirmed that no lives were lost in the accident.
The exact number of injured passengers and the severity of their injuries had not been established as of the time of reporting. The circumstances that led to the collision also remained unclear.
The accident occurred as APC supporters from across the North-Central region gathered in Lafia for the party’s mega rally. Participants from different states had begun arriving in the Nasarawa State capital on Friday ahead of the political event.
The incident has renewed attention on the safety of party supporters travelling long distances to attend political gatherings, particularly where large groups are transported in organised convoys.
In a similar incident on March 25, 2026, three APC delegates from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State died, while about 10 others were injured in a crash involving a bus conveying them to Lafia for the party’s North-Central zonal congress.
For Saturday’s accident, further details concerning the injured supporters and the cause of the collision were still awaited.
