The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has declared his personal hatred for former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, saying he would spit in his face if they met.
Tenebe made the remarks during an interview published on Saturday, October 10, 2026, while defending President Bola Tinubu’s administration and explaining his controversial “AK-47 fire” comment directed at political opponents.
The Edo APC chairman also threatened to spit in the face of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, accusing opposition politicians of focusing on criticising Tinubu rather than presenting ideas for governing the country.
“If I see them, I will spit in their faces,” Tenebe said.
Speaking specifically about Obi, the APC chairman insisted that his hostility towards the former presidential candidate was personal.
“As for Obi, I hate him, and I maintain that,” he said, adding that he considered Obi insincere.
Tenebe also questioned the political compatibility of Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whom reports identified as Obi’s running mate under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). He argued that their perceived differences on certain issues, including alcohol consumption, raised questions about how they would govern together.
The APC chairman distinguished his position on Atiku from his feelings towards Obi, saying his displeasure with the former vice-president was mainly connected to his criticism of Tinubu.
Tenebe’s comments came as political exchanges intensified ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures criticising the Federal Government’s policies and the ruling party defending its record.
During the same interview, Tenebe also addressed his earlier “AK-47 fire” remark, which attracted criticism over its violent implications. He denied that the statement was a threat to personally shoot political opponents, arguing that he had expressed a wish or prayer rather than an intention to attack anyone.
The remarks have renewed attention on the tone of political discourse in Nigeria as parties prepare for the next general election.
Neither Obi nor Atiku’s response to Tenebe’s latest comments was included in the reports reviewed.
