The Abia State Government has strongly dismissed circulating reports alleging that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claim as false, mischievous, and politically motivated.
In a statement signed by Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, the government described the rumour as a fabrication by political propagandists unsettled by Governor Otti’s consistent delivery of good governance and his rising popularity across party lines.
According to the statement, the baseless publication was a desperate attempt to distract the people of Abia State and create confusion where none exists. It reaffirmed that Governor Otti remains a proud and committed member of the Labour Party, the platform under which he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Abia.
The government emphasized that the Governor’s focus remains firmly on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability, and delivering the dividends of democracy to every citizen.
It also recalled that during the October edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians”, the Governor made it clear that his interest lies not in political permutations or defections but in service to humanity and the transformation of Abia State.
“The Otti-led administration has continued to pursue a clear vision anchored on transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and the restoration of public confidence in governance,” the statement read.
Abians were urged to disregard the false report and treat it as “cheap propaganda” orchestrated by detractors seeking to divert attention from the monumental progress being achieved under the present administration.
The government reaffirmed that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, remains resolute in his mission to build a new Abia founded on truth, justice, and equity under the banner of the Labour Party.
