The Nigerian Police have taken into custody one of two brothers accused of fatally strangling their father in a shocking family tragedy that has rattled residents of Numan town in Adamawa State. The arrested suspect, 25‑year‑old David ThankGod, was apprehended in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, after an intensive manhunt, the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed.

Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje told reporters that while David has been taken into custody, his younger brother, 23‑year‑old Joshua ThankGod, is still at large, prompting ongoing efforts by security operatives to secure his arrest.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of January 3, 2026, at the family residence in the Gwe‑da‑Mallam area of Numan town, when the two siblings allegedly attacked their father, Ogar ThankGod, a prominent local businessman well known in the community. According to police accounts, the fatal assault unfolded around 1:00 a.m., leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Investigations by the Adamawa State Police Command revealed that the brothers had recently been summoned from Lagos by their sister in a bid to resolve what authorities described as a long‑standing family dispute. That conflict, according to SP Nguroje, had previously involved police intervention, but escalated tragically into the fatal attack after their return.

“The matter was already a police case before this unfortunate incident,” Nguroje said, underscoring that law enforcement had prior awareness of tensions within the family.

The killing has sparked outrage and disbelief among residents, with many describing it as one of the most disturbing family tragedies to have hit the town in recent memory. Community members have expressed sorrow and called for justice as authorities continue their search for the second suspect, who remains a fugitive.

Police have assured the public that the investigation remains active and that efforts to locate and arrest Joshua ThankGod are ongoing. They also pledged to bring anyone involved in the killing to justice once they are apprehended.
