Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, has formally resigned from his federal cabinet position to pursue the 2027 Gombe State Governorship election. His resignation was submitted on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, in compliance with a presidential directive requiring political appointees to step down if they intend to participate in upcoming elections.
Alkali tendered his resignation to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. In a statement issued through his media aide, Umar Alkali Jibril, he expressed gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve in the cabinet and highlighted achievements in the transportation sector during his tenure. President Tinubu accepted the resignation and commended Alkali for his contributions to national development.
