Troops of the Joint Task Force North East under Operation HADIN Kai have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and seized a number of motorcycle tyres believed to be linked to militant operations. The action is part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt extremist networks and reduce attacks on civilians and security forces in Borno State and surrounding areas.
According to military sources, the arrest followed intelligence pointing to suspicious activity by individuals connected to ISWAP. Troops moved to detain the suspect and recovered motorcycle tyres, which insurgents commonly use to move quickly across difficult terrain, conduct ambushes, and evade security patrols. By intercepting such supplies, the military aims to limit the mobility of insurgents and disrupt their operational plans.
The seizure aligns with other recent successes by Operation HADIN Kai, which has focused on repelling ambushes, recovering arms and motorcycles, and dismantling logistical networks that support militant activities. Troops operating in different parts of Borno State have also recovered weapons and vehicles used by insurgents during engagements, demonstrating a sustained effort to weaken the operational capacity of extremist groups.
Operation HADIN Kai, launched in 2015, combines the efforts of the army, air force, and paramilitary units to reclaim territory, dismantle insurgent infrastructure, rescue abducted civilians, and secure communities in northeastern Nigeria. Recent missions have led to the rescue of dozens of kidnapped victims and the arrest of individuals supplying logistics to insurgents, delivering strategic setbacks to extremist networks.
Security analysts emphasize that targeting motorcycles and other mobility resources is crucial because insurgents rely on these vehicles to move quickly, launch attacks, and evade capture. By disrupting these logistics, military forces hope to slow down insurgent operations and reduce attacks on both security personnel and civilians.
Despite these operational gains, the security situation in Borno State remains challenging, with insurgent attacks and raids continuing to threaten stability. Analysts note that intelligence-led operations, community engagement, and securing liberated areas are essential to ensuring long-term stability and reducing the capacity of insurgent groups to regroup and launch attacks.
The arrest of the suspected ISWAP member and the recovery of motorcycle tyres represent part of a broader strategy to constrain insurgent mobility and operational effectiveness. The ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN Kai aim to improve security for communities, protect civilians, and ultimately degrade the capabilities of extremist groups in the northeast.
