In Zamfara State, Nigerian military forces have neutralized several bandits operating in the Gadar Manya area of Anka Local Government Area, a hotspot for highway insecurity where criminal gangs have been blocking the Gurusu–Gwashi road and abducting travellers. The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the location and movements of the group, which had been terrorising residents and commuters in the region for months.

The bandits reportedly used the rural terrain to stage ambushes and evade security patrols. They were known for intercepting vehicles, kidnapping individuals for ransom, and setting up makeshift checkpoints along the Gurusu–Gwashi corridor, making travel hazardous for motorists and commuters.

The troops’ intervention involved coordinated operations that resulted in the neutralization of several members of the criminal gang. While exact figures have not been released, the action is considered a significant setback for bandit activities in the area and is part of a broader campaign to restore security along key transport routes in Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Zamfara State has faced long-standing insecurity, with numerous incidents of raids, abductions, and ambushes affecting villages, highways, and farming communities. These criminal activities have disrupted local commerce, forced many residents into hiding, and heightened fears across the region. The military and security agencies have repeatedly launched operations to dismantle such networks and safeguard communities.

Residents and local authorities have welcomed the military’s success, seeing it as a step toward restoring safety and confidence for travellers along the Gurusu–Gwashi road. The neutralisation of the group is expected to ease travel disruptions and reduce the risk of further kidnappings in the area.

Security officials have emphasized that efforts to secure the region will continue, with follow-up patrols and intelligence gathering to prevent the resurgence of banditry. The Nigerian military remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring safer conditions for residents and commuters in Zamfara State and across the northwest.
