Troops of Sector 2, operating in Zamfara and Kebbi states, have reportedly rescued four kidnapped persons during separate security operations conducted on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as military personnel intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in Nigeria's North-West.
The operations took place in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State and the Danko-Wasagu axis of Kebbi State, where troops responded to information concerning kidnapped residents and the movement of suspected terrorists.
According to operational information made available, two victims were rescued from farmland in Binoni Marafa, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescued individuals were identified as 25-year-old Mansur Shehu and 49-year-old Kadijat Haruna.
The circumstances surrounding their abduction, including when they were kidnapped and how long they remained in captivity, were not immediately disclosed.
In a separate operation in Kebbi State, troops rescued two additional victims following reports of suspected terrorists moving with kidnapped persons from Dipindu village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The victims, identified as 35-year-old Jimoh Su-Arege and 41-year-old Kalahe Danjuma, were rescued between Bena and Sawade.
The operation followed information about the suspected movement of armed criminal elements through the area.
Following their rescue, the two victims were handed over to the Seriki of Dipindu, a traditional community leader, for further assistance and reintegration into the community.
It was not immediately clear whether the Zamfara victims had also been reunited with their families or whether any of the four rescued persons required medical attention.
The operational account did not indicate whether soldiers engaged the suspected kidnappers in a gunfight or whether any suspects were arrested during the interventions.
It also did not disclose whether weapons, ammunition or other items were recovered.
The rescues come amid continuing military operations against armed groups responsible for kidnapping, attacks on communities and other security threats across parts of Zamfara and Kebbi states.
Troops operating under Sector 2 have maintained patrols and surveillance activities in vulnerable communities and routes frequently associated with the movement of armed groups.
The latest operations demonstrate the importance of timely intelligence in identifying the movement of suspected kidnappers and locating abducted persons.
Military authorities have continued to emphasise the need for sustained patrols, surveillance and cooperation with local communities to restrict the activities of criminal groups.
The security operations are intended to deny suspected terrorists and kidnappers freedom of movement while improving protection for residents, travellers and farming communities.
However, the rescue of abducted persons does not necessarily mean that the armed groups responsible for their captivity have been apprehended.
Further investigations would be required to establish the identities of the abductors and determine whether the incidents were connected to other criminal activities in the affected areas.
Zamfara and Kebbi have experienced repeated incidents of kidnapping and armed attacks, prompting continued deployment of military personnel to communities considered vulnerable to such threats.
In recent operations, troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have also reported rescuing abducted residents and recovering stolen livestock in Kebbi State.
The continued deployment of security personnel reflects efforts to disrupt armed groups and improve the safety of communities affected by insecurity.
According to the latest operational account, troops have intensified patrols and surveillance across their areas of responsibility to prevent criminal elements from operating freely.
The four reported rescues provide relief for the affected victims and their communities, although the wider security situation remains a concern.
Stone Reporters News will continue to monitor developments, including any further information from military authorities concerning the operations and the circumstances of the victims' abductions.
