The First Lady of Oyo State, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, on Tuesday, extended support to women entrepreneurs through the RHI/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme. She was represented at the event by the Wife of the Acting Governor, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Ajibola Lawal, where 500 preselected women across the state received ₦50,000 each to boost their businesses.
The programme, which held in Ibadan, had in attendance key commissioners, including those for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Special Duties, Education, and Energy and Mineral Resources. Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Chief Mrs. Lawal clarified that the support was not a loan but a grant—described as a “seed of renewed hope” to recapitalise businesses and strengthen economic independence among women.
Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and to the Oyo State Coordinator of RHI, Her Excellency, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, for the life-changing gesture. They pledged to use the funds wisely for the intended purpose of sustaining and expanding their businesses.
The initiative marks another milestone in the government’s commitment to empowering women and promoting inclusive economic growth in Oyo State.
