Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reiterated its stance regarding the demand by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) for an annual subsidy of N1.505 trillion, aimed at enabling marketers to match refinery gantry prices at their depots.
In a statement issued on 17th September 2025, the refinery clarified that while it offers petroleum products to marketers at its gantry price, DAPPMAN’s request for coastal logistics support—adding N75 per litre to the cost—would translate to an additional annual cost of N1.505 trillion, which the refinery is not willing to absorb. The company emphasized that it has no intention of increasing gantry prices or providing such a massive subsidy, citing historical misuse of similar practices that defrauded the Federal Government.
Dangote Petroleum underscored its sufficient production and storage capacity to meet domestic demand while supporting export. The refinery maintains a consistent closing stock of 500 million litres of refined products monthly. Between June and September 2025, it exported over 3.2 million metric tonnes of PMS, AGO, and aviation fuel, while marketers imported more than 3.6 million metric tonnes in the same period, actions the refinery described as detrimental to the Nigerian economy.
The refinery also highlighted its commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform initiatives, noting its role in stabilizing the Naira, cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal, positioning Nigeria as a refining hub, generating foreign exchange, and creating employment opportunities. Dangote Petroleum reiterated its willingness to collaborate with government agencies and patriotic stakeholders while holding institutions accountable when necessary.
The statement concluded by affirming the refinery’s dedication to national development and the responsible progress of Nigeria’s energy sector.
