The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has extended its congratulations to Nigeria’s representative, Engr. Mahmoud Ben-Tukur, following his re-election to Part II of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council. The announcement was made after elections held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the ongoing 42nd ICAO Assembly in Montreal, Canada.
Ben-Tukur, a seasoned aviation expert and former General Manager of Airworthiness Standards at the NCAA, will continue to serve on the 36-member ICAO Council for another three-year term. His re-election ensures Nigeria’s continued representation alongside other leading nations, including Egypt, South Africa, India, Spain, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.
The NCAA described Ben-Tukur’s victory as a testament to his extensive experience and leadership in the aviation sector, noting that it reinforces Nigeria’s influence in shaping international civil aviation standards and policies. Aviation analysts say his presence on the council will provide opportunities for Nigeria to advance safety, security, and regulatory frameworks in line with global best practices, while fostering stronger collaboration with other member states.
