The number of casualties from the recent Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza has risen to 20, according to officials.

Both the Hamas-run health ministry and Dr. Atef Al Hout, director of the hospital, confirmed the updated figures. Earlier reports had suggested that 25 people had been killed; however, the number was revised after clarifying that five of the fatalities occurred nearby from a separate incident.

Among the victims is journalist Ahmed Abu Aziz, who reportedly succumbed to his wounds sustained during the attack. Other journalists are also said to be among those killed.

In response to the strike, Israel has announced it has opened an investigation following Gaza’s health ministry report on the fatalities.

The attack on a medical facility has drawn international attention, with global calls for a thorough inquiry into the incident and the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
