Sanwo-Olu Cracks Down on Illegal Structures Along Lagos Coastline, Boosts Riverine Power Supply

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has raised alarms over the proliferation of unapproved structures along the state’s coastline, citing serious violations of planning regulations and safety standards. The Governor warned that these illegal constructions not only endanger lives but also threaten the long-term value of Lagos’ riverine and coastal areas.

Sanwo-Olu stated that the Ministry of Physical Planning and LASBCA will conduct a full enumeration of the affected sites. “We will take firm but fair decisions, regularising where possible, protecting local residents, and restoring order to the corridor,” he emphasized.

During the inspection, the Governor also visited the 30MVA power station at Ilashe, now handed over to EKO Disco. Once connected, the station will supply electricity to homes in the riverine communities, a significant step towards unlocking the economic and tourism potential of the area.

Highlighting the importance of safeguarding the Lagos coastline, Sanwo-Olu pledged to correct past wrongs while working with local communities to ensure a safe, inclusive, and prosperous future for all residents.
