
The Benue State Police Command has arrested three armed robbery suspects believed to be residents of Mararaba in Nassarawa State and Nyanya in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the arrests were made by operatives of the Orokam Police Division during a stop-and-search at Orokam Junction along Obollo Afor Road.
The suspects have been identified as Mujahid Mohammed, 21; Yahaya Abdullahi, 21; and Kalipha Mohammad, 28. During the operation, police recovered a bag containing 34 mobile phones of various brands, three HP laptops, and two MP3 players.
Edet revealed that the suspects confessed to belonging to an armed robbery gang responsible for terrorising communities in Orokam, Benue State, and several areas in Enugu State. They admitted to robbing six flats in the Umukasi area and ten flats in the St. Theresa area of Nsukka, Enugu.
The suspects further disclosed that their ring leader, Abba Mohammed, 27, remains at large and escaped with their weapons during the arrest. Efforts are ongoing in collaboration with Enugu and Gombe State Police Commands to apprehend him, identify the owners of the recovered items, and prosecute all involved after due investigation.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, commended the swift action of the patrol team and reiterated the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements from the state.
