NSCDC Calls for Stronger Collaboration with Private Security Firms in Kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has called for enhanced cooperation between security agencies and private guard companies to tackle rising insecurity in the state.

State Commandant Umar Mohammed made the appeal at a Security Summit held in Ilorin, organised in partnership with the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN). The summit, themed “The Role of Private Security Guards in Crime Prevention and Intelligence Gathering”, focused on emerging threats including banditry, kidnapping, cultism, and cybercrime, noting that conventional agencies alone cannot address these challenges effectively.

Kwara State, once known for its relative peace, has recently faced increasing security concerns. Commandant Umar emphasized that the state’s 62 licensed private security firms, if properly regulated and integrated, can provide critical intelligence and support to conventional security agencies in protecting lives and property.

Chairman of ALPSPN in Kwara, Samuel Bola, acknowledged existing challenges within the sector but assured that measures are being taken to eliminate unlicensed operators and improve professionalism among private security firms.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, represented at the summit by his Senior Special Adviser on Security, Muyeeden Aliyu, pledged continued government support for both security operations and collaborative initiatives.

The summit brought together key security stakeholders, policymakers, and private operators, establishing a framework for intelligence sharing and closer synergy to safeguard the state.
