Ondo Governor Clarifies Teacher Recruitment Protest, Blames Scammers

Published on 13 September 2025 at 09:53

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has addressed reports of a protest involving individuals claiming to have been denied employment in the recent teacher recruitment exercise conducted through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Clarifying the situation, the Governor explained that the protesters were not actual teachers but victims of fraud. Scammers had issued fake employment and posting letters to applicants after collecting money from them. These individuals were identified during the biometric verification process and informed that their letters were counterfeit.

Disciplinary measures have already been taken against three SUBEB insiders allegedly involved in the scam, who reportedly colluded with external actors to defraud applicants. Meanwhile, the over 2,000 teachers officially recruited for primary and secondary schools in the state have already commenced work.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has directed SUBEB management to invite the victims of the fraud for a meeting and has constituted a committee to further investigate the matter and ensure appropriate redress.
