The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT handed over 20 bags of suspected cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 840 kilograms, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos on Monday, 6 October 2025.
The consignment was intercepted on Thursday, 2 October 2025, by the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team (QRT) in collaboration with personnel from Operation MESA around Ijegun, Ojo, Lagos. The suspects abandoned the vehicle carrying the drugs and fled upon sighting the patrol team.
The interception reflects the Strategic Directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Admiralty Medal, to combat illicit activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
“NNS BEECROFT remains committed to intensifying surveillance, patrols, and intelligence-led operations to deny criminals freedom of action and enhance socio-economic activities within Lagos waterways and adjoining creeks,” the Navy stated.
This operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s dedication to maritime security and support for national anti-drug initiatives, safeguarding communities and economic activities along the country’s waterways.
