Ogun State has officially joined Nigeria’s aviation map as the first commercial flight departed from the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, marking the commencement of full flight operations in the state.
The historic milestone was announced by the Executive Governor of Ogun State, (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, who described the moment as the realization of a long-held dream and a testament to the state’s unwavering pursuit of progress and development.
“Today, we witnessed a historic milestone as the maiden ValueJet flight departed from our very own Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, to Abuja,” Governor Abiodun said.
“This marks the official commencement of commercial flight operations from Ogun State — a long-held dream that has now become a reality.”
The Governor expressed immense pride in the project, emphasizing that the Gateway International Airport is not just an aviation hub but a beacon of opportunity for generations to come.
He said the airport, which was built to global standards, represents progress, possibilities, and prosperity — values that define the administration’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda.
“We take immense pride in this achievement, not just as a government, but as a people united by vision, perseverance, and faith in the greatness of our dear state,” Abiodun stated.
“The Gateway International Airport stands as a symbol of progress, possibilities, and prosperity — built to global standards and designed to serve generations to come.”
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building critical infrastructure that supports business growth, enhances mobility, and attracts investment to the state. He noted that the project will not only create jobs but also boost Ogun’s position as Nigeria’s new frontier for industrial and economic development.
He extended appreciation to ValueJet for being the pioneering airline partner in the airport’s commercial operations, as well as to the people of Ogun State for their patience and support throughout the airport’s development.
“This moment reaffirms our commitment to creating infrastructure that supports business growth, enhances mobility, and positions Ogun as Nigeria’s new frontier for industrial and economic development,” the Governor added.
