The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, honoured exceptional teachers and schools during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration at Chief Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, awarding cash prizes ranging from ₦5 million to ₦10 million.
Woliwo Primary School II, Onitsha, the current holder of the Best Primary School in Nigeria award, received ₦10 million, while other 2025 award winners were given ₦5 million each. Past recipients of the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards from 2022 to 2024 were also celebrated with ₦5 million prizes.
In his address, Governor Soludo praised teachers for their pivotal role in shaping future generations and lauded Anambra schools for clinching nine national awards at the 2025 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards — the highest in the country. He emphasized that teachers deserve recognition and rewards for their contribution to education, highlighting significant improvements in literacy and numeracy levels and increased public school enrolment over the past two years.
The governor further noted that Anambra now boasts one of the lowest rates of out-of-school children in Nigeria. He announced plans to establish Community Primary Schools in all communities without government schools, beginning with 25 of 76 identified areas, and revealed that a new teacher recruitment exercise would commence soon. Additionally, a State Teachers and Schools Excellence Award will be introduced to inspire educators and encourage the next generation to join the teaching profession.
Goodwill messages from top education stakeholders, including Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, and other key officials, applauded Governor Soludo’s dedication to education and celebrated teachers as the backbone of Anambra State’s academic excellence.
