Kano, Nigeria – In a rare display of honesty and professionalism, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended a Kano-based volunteer, Mr. Nura Abdullahi, for returning over ₦20 million mistakenly left behind by a passenger in a commercial tricycle.
The incident occurred when Alhaji Mustafa from Katsina State alighted from the tricycle and accidentally left behind a bag containing the money. Abdullahi, who is not a regular NSCDC staff member and reportedly had less than ₦20,000 in his own account, used the last dialed number on Mustafa’s phone — which he had lent the passenger earlier — to contact and return the money.
ACG Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, NSCDC Commander of Zone 12, presented a letter of recognition to Abdullahi on Friday in Kano, describing the act as “a rare display of honesty, integrity and professionalism.”
The Command verified the incident and briefed the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who directed that Abdullahi be celebrated as a model of honesty within the corps. The NSCDC also assured that Abdullahi would be handsomely rewarded for his exemplary conduct.
Highlighting the importance of moral values, ACG Abiodun-Taiwo said, “This young man is a good ambassador of his family, the NSCDC, and Nigeria at large. If this were something negative, social media would have been awash with it. Positive deeds like this deserve equal publicity.”
He further urged Nigerians to emulate Abdullahi’s sincerity, stating, “It pays to be honest. If he had taken the money, he wouldn’t enjoy peace today. Parents should train their children well, and young people should uphold such values.”
The NSCDC’s recognition of Abdullahi underscores the agency’s commitment to promoting integrity, professionalism, and positive citizen engagement, even among volunteers operating under challenging economic circumstances.
