Niger State, Nigeria – Security operatives in Niger State have successfully recovered a herd of stolen livestock and apprehended two suspects believed to be involved in a local cattle-rustling syndicate.

The operation, carried out following credible intelligence, led officers to the location where the stolen animals were being moved. The recovered livestock, numbering several dozen, were traced back to owners in nearby communities who had previously reported the theft.

Authorities confirmed that the two suspects arrested at the scene are currently undergoing interrogation to determine their level of involvement and whether they are part of a wider network operating across parts of North-Central Nigeria.

Cattle rustling has remained a persistent threat to rural livelihoods in Niger State, often escalating conflicts and contributing to insecurity in the region. In response, security agencies have intensified surveillance and patrols along major livestock routes to curb such criminal activities.

Previous coordinated efforts in the area, including operations along the Jebba–Mokwa corridor, have also led to the recovery of dozens of rustled cattle and multiple arrests, demonstrating a sustained crackdown on cattle-rustling rings.

Authorities confirmed that the recovered livestock will be returned to verified owners once proper identification is completed, and the suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.

Residents have been urged to report any suspicious movement of livestock to aid security operatives in dismantling rustling networks and safeguarding rural communities.
