The Federal Government has vowed to deploy every available resource to ensure the safe release of the 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko-Wasagu, Kebbi State.
President Bola Tinubu made the commitment on Wednesday, sending Vice-President Kashim Shettima to Kebbi State to express solidarity with the government and people over the harrowing incident.
“Kebbi, you are not alone, Nigeria stands with you,” the President said, adding, “We shall not rest until your daughters, our daughters return to your warm embrace.” He described the attack as an assault on the nation’s collective conscience, emphasizing that the perpetrators would face the full weight of justice.
President Tinubu also commended the courage and tireless efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies, paying tribute to the late Brigadier General Musa Oba and the school’s Vice Principal, who lost their lives defending the students. He assured that their families, including the children of the slain Vice Principal, would receive care and support.
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State welcomed the Vice-President and lauded the Federal Government’s swift response. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the girls’ safe return and urged residents to continue praying for peace. “The security agencies have our full confidence, and every effort will be made to bring the girls back to their families safely,” he stated.
The visit included top officials, among them APC National Chairman Prof. Nantawe Yitwada, Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida, various federal ministers, members of the National Assembly, and senior military and paramilitary officers.
