The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully stopped a kidnapping attempt in Guto village, a small community on the outskirts of Bwari Area Council, early on November 20, 2025.

Around 1:10 a.m., police received a distress call that about 30 heavily armed attackers had stormed the village with the aim of kidnapping a resident and his family. Without delay, the police responded quickly, sending the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team and the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS) to the scene.

When the attackers saw the police, they opened fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. The police responded with superior firepower, managing to shoot and kill two of the attackers. The rest of the assailants fled into the bushes and nearby mountains to escape.

Tragically, during the exchange, one police officer was shot and fatally wounded. He was rushed to Bwari General Hospital but was confirmed dead. The police officer’s sacrifice is deeply mourned, as he paid the “supreme price” defending the community.

In response to the attack, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has deployed additional officers to restore peace and security in the area. He has also ordered a thorough investigation to track down and arrest the remaining attackers.

Since the incident, normalcy has been restored in Guto village. The police are assuring residents that they are working hard to keep the community safe.

This update was issued by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Police Command, on November 20, 2025.
