Gusau, Zamfara – In a landmark social welfare initiative, the Zamfara State Government has announced plans to sponsor the wedding of 200 orphans, set to take place on Monday, 23 November 2025, at the premises of the Zakkat and Endowment Board.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Malam Habibu Balarabe, said that all beneficiaries were thoroughly screened before approval, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable citizens.

Beyond the mass wedding, the Board will provide grants to 200 women running small businesses to strengthen their livelihoods. Additionally, 100 women who recently completed a three-week poultry farming training programme will receive starter packs to launch their ventures. Orphans who underwent computer literacy training will also be provided starter packs during the event.

The Board has further arranged to settle selected debt cases in Shari’ah Courts and correctional centres across the state, highlighting a multi-faceted approach to social support.

Malam Balarabe described the initiative as part of Zamfara’s broader efforts to uplift vulnerable groups and ensure social welfare. He noted that similar programmes have been implemented in other northern states, including Kano, where the government organised a mass wedding for over 150 disadvantaged couples in 2024.

This initiative underscores the state government’s drive to combine humanitarian support with economic empowerment, aiming to positively impact both orphans and women entrepreneurs in Zamfara.
