The Federal Government has appointed iconic musician and humanitarian, Innocent “2Face” Idibia, as the country’s National Fire Safety Ambassador, marking a renewed push to tackle rising fire incidents through public education and behavioural change.

The appointment positions the award-winning artiste at the centre of a strategic national campaign aimed at shifting Nigerians’ attitudes toward fire prevention and safety. Authorities say the decision reflects the need for a credible, influential voice capable of mobilising millions—especially young people—towards safer practices.

According to government officials, Idibia will spearhead a nationwide awareness movement designed to reduce the frequency and impact of fire outbreaks by promoting simple, preventive habits in homes, schools, markets, and public institutions.

The new ambassador is expected to work closely with relevant agencies to amplify safety messages, support community outreach programmes, and encourage Nigerians to adopt proactive measures that can save lives and property.

With this appointment, the government hopes to leverage Idibia’s popularity and humanitarian background to spark a cultural shift in how citizens perceive and respond to fire risks—a crucial step as the country continues to battle preventable fire emergencies
