The Plateau State Government has reassured residents that the recent closure of schools is a safety measure to protect students and staff. The government announced that, as a precaution, all schools are temporarily closed due to rising security concerns, especially related to kidnapping incidents witnessed in neighboring states.
On November 21, 2025, the government directed that Government Junior Model Secondary Schools would close starting Saturday, November 22. Additionally, all Primary and Day Schools are to remain closed from Monday, November 24, until further notice.
The Ministry of Education has ordered that no academic or administrative activities should take place in any school during this period. This action is aimed at preventing any potential threats and ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and school staff.
The government emphasizes that there is no need for panic. Instead, they see the school closures as a proactive step to maintain peace and security across the state.
Under the leadership of Governor Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, authorities are urging parents, guardians, school officials, and community leaders to stay calm, cooperate fully with all security directives, and share only verified information.
Citizens are also advised to avoid spreading rumors or unverified reports that could cause unnecessary fear or chaos.
The government appreciates the patience and understanding of the people and encourages everyone to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of ongoing efforts to keep Plateau State peaceful and safe.
A statement regarding these measures was issued by Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya, Ramnap, mni, Honorable Commissioner for the Ministry of Information and Communication, on November 22, 2025. The government assures the public that the situation is under control and remains committed to peace, stability, and public safety.
