Armed Robbers Attack Burial in Ondo, Fuji Musician Targeted; Two Suspects Arrested

Ondo State, 23 November 2025 — The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects following a violent attack and robbery at a burial ceremony in Okitipupa Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred on 21 November 2025, targeted renowned Fuji musician Abbas Akande Obesere while he performed at the event.

According to the police, hoodlums led by Michael Abbey, also known as “Emir,” struck during the performance, stealing a bag containing ₦4 million, a gold chain, wristwatch, and the musician’s phone. Obesere’s manager was injured when he tried to intervene, sustaining a hand wound after being stabbed with a broken bottle.

The two suspects, Michael Abbey and Oniye Oke, have confessed to their roles in the attack. Officers recovered ₦479,100, believed to be part of the stolen funds.

Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, assured the public that all those involved in the crime would face justice. He emphasized that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across Ondo State.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns over security at public events, particularly in areas where criminals target gatherings for robbery and violence.
