As the festive season approaches, the Imo and Plateau State Police Commands have jointly announced a total ban on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks and knockouts. The directive comes as part of renewed efforts to safeguard residents during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Both commands say the ban is necessary to prevent the annual surge in criminal activities often masked by the sound of explosives. Security agencies have long warned that fireworks can provide cover for armed attacks, trigger panic, or create opportunities for mischief in crowded areas.
With this announcement, residents and traders are expected to comply immediately, while enforcement teams are being mobilised across both states to ensure full adherence.
