Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, has said that Nigeria’s fight against insecurity will be very difficult unless the country tackles the root causes of crime. He explained that poverty and unemployment are the main reasons why many young people get involved in crimes like banditry and violence.
Governor Radda made this statement while speaking about the ongoing security problems in the North-West and other parts of Nigeria. He emphasized that military actions alone cannot solve the problem. Instead, he said, the government needs to focus on improving people's lives.
He explained that areas with high crime often have poor access to education, bad roads, and few job opportunities. To reduce insecurity, he said, Nigeria must invest in education, create jobs, and develop rural communities to give people better chances in life.
The governor also shared what he has been doing in Katsina, such as working with community groups and federal security forces to fight crime. But he stressed that long-term peace depends on giving citizens hope and opportunities so they do not feel desperate or tempted to join criminal groups.
Governor Radda said, “When people have income, education, and opportunities, they are less likely to turn to crime. Security is not just about guns; it’s about giving people a reason to choose peace.”
Many experts agree with his view, saying Nigeria’s security issues are closely linked to social and economic problems. They urge the government to combine security measures with programs that create jobs, improve education, and support social welfare.
Governor Radda promised that his government will continue working to address both the causes and effects of insecurity, believing that development and economic inclusion are key to lasting peace in Katsina and Nigeria as a whole.
