Lagos—The prolonged detention of Lagos-based lawyer Moses Oddiri by the Department of State Services (DSS) has sparked widespread condemnation. Reports indicate that Oddiri has been held for nearly two weeks following his arrest in Lagos and has now reportedly been transferred to the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

According to activist and journalist Omoyele Sowore, the detention is unlawful and allegedly carried out on the orders of EFCC Chair Ola Olukayode. Sowore demanded the lawyer’s immediate and unconditional release, describing the situation as a blatant disregard for due process.

“This unlawful detention of lawyer Moses Oddiri by the lawless DSS… must end immediately,” Sowore said, adding that the move undermines public trust in Nigeria’s security and justice institutions. The hashtag #FreeOddiriNOW has been circulating on social media as supporters call for swift action.

Legal experts note that extended detention without clear charges or court proceedings raises serious human rights concerns and could attract scrutiny from both local and international observers.

As the situation develops, calls are growing for the DSS and EFCC to provide clarity on the reasons behind Oddiri’s detention and ensure compliance with Nigeria’s legal framework.
