A touching tribute has resurfaced highlighting the bravery of Yakubu Fanami, a teenage student from Borno State who sacrificed his life to stop a suicide bomber from attacking worshippers during Friday Jumaat prayers.
Yakubu, an SS1 student of Darussalam Science and Islamic Academy and a resident of Kaleri in Maiduguri, was described as full of life and hope for a better future. But on the day of the tragic incident — January 25, 2017 — he demonstrated extraordinary courage.
According to the account, a female suicide bomber attempted to gain access to a mosque packed with worshippers. Yakubu noticed her suspicious movement and took decisive action to stop her. In the process, the explosive device detonated, killing the bomber and Yakubu instantly.
However, his intervention saved hundreds of worshippers who would likely have been killed in the blast.
The tribute describes Yakubu as a “hero of a new Nigeria,” praising his bravery and selflessness. It further notes that although his life was cut short, his sacrifice was meaningful and will be remembered as a symbol of courage in the fight against terrorism.
“RIP Yakubu. We will not forget you,” the message concluded, reaffirming continued prayers for the young hero.
