VP Shettima Urges Emerging Islamic Scholars to Uphold Tolerance and Inclusivity in Honour of Late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on emerging Islamic scholars in Nigeria and across Africa to champion the principles of tolerance, dialogue, and inclusivity, following the passing of renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

Speaking at the cleric’s burial in Bauchi, Bauchi State, VP Shettima described the late Tijjaniyya leader as “a colossus—an institution and one of the last great titans of Islamic scholarship,” emphasizing that his commitment to moderation and dialogue represents the true heritage of Islam. He urged young scholars to reject fanaticism and extremism and follow the path of accommodation and inclusivity.

Praying for the repose of Sheikh Bauchi’s soul, the Vice President added, “May Allah grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah grant his family and millions of followers the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

VP Shettima described the cleric’s passing as a monumental loss, not only to Nigeria but to the global Muslim community, highlighting the enduring influence of his teachings on future generations.
