In response to mounting complaints from motorists and residents over persistent traffic congestion around the Otovwodo Junction Flyover construction site in Ughelli, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed the immediate reopening of the Okogbe access road, which had earlier been closed to facilitate construction activities.
The Governor’s directive came after weeks of gridlock caused by diverted traffic within the town, particularly as construction around the flyover intensified. Acting on the instruction, the Commissioner for Works, Comrade Reuben Izeze, visited the project site alongside engineers and representatives of Julius Berger to assess the situation on ground.
During the inspection, Izeze explained that the Okogbe link road had been identified as the quickest and most effective alternative route to relieve pressure on the main corridor. He noted that the rising number of haulage trucks diverting from other failed routes had significantly worsened congestion in the area, making immediate intervention necessary.
The Commissioner confirmed that the construction firm, Julius Berger, has been directed to reopen the Okogbe access road without delay to ensure freer vehicular flow while work on the flyover continues. He added that the Ministry of Works will maintain close supervision to ensure that both traffic management and construction timelines remain on track.
The decision is expected to bring much-needed relief to commuters and residents who have endured prolonged delays due to the ongoing infrastructural upgrade in Ughelli.
