Nawfia, Anambra State – A condolence team returning from Ebonyi State was involved in a deadly collision on Friday, 29th November 2025, leaving six people dead and five others injured along the Awka–Onitsha old road in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The accident involved a tipper lorry and a 608 long bus carrying 32 passengers. Eyewitnesses revealed that the bus, returning from a burial organized by the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), was driven recklessly, with several dangerous overtakes that led to the fatal collision.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Awka, the victims included two men and four women, while five female passengers sustained injuries. The remaining 21 passengers escaped unhurt. The deceased were deposited at the morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku.

FRSC State Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, sympathized with the bereaved families and urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws, avoid aggressive overtaking, and prioritize road safety. She reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to traffic enforcement, public education on road safety, and rapid response to accidents.

“The FRSC response to this fatal crash underscores the devastating consequences of reckless driving,” she said, emphasizing the need for all road users to exercise caution.

The Awka–Onitsha road has since been cleared, and normal traffic flow restored, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving practices.
