In a strongly worded statement, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s newly released list of ambassadorial nominees, describing it as a troubling representation of the administration’s values and a major setback for Nigeria’s global image.

The opposition party accused the President of selecting individuals with “integrity deficits,” alleging that several nominees are known propagandists, tainted politicians, and former public officials whose reputations, they say, undermine the dignity expected of diplomats.

According to the PDP, public outrage over the list is justified, though not surprising, given the track record it attributes to the current administration. The party argued that ambassadorial nominees are a direct reflection of the President’s values, insisting that the list is proof of what the government considers acceptable representation for Nigeria abroad.

One nomination that drew especially sharp criticism is that of the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. The PDP accused him of presiding over “double-speaks, flip-flops, and undelivered promises” in the electoral system—failures it claims contributed to what it describes as the administration’s ongoing struggles in governance.

The party further alleged that offering Yakubu such a position is part of a “skewed reward system,” insinuating that the appointment could serve as an incentive for the current INEC leadership to deliver compromised elections in 2027.

Beyond individual nominees, the PDP warned that sending ambassadors with questionable public perception could damage Nigeria’s diplomatic reputation, saying international respect for any nation is shaped by the integrity of its President and those who represent it abroad.

The party therefore called on President Tinubu to withdraw the list and submit a fresh set of nominees—individuals with strong democratic values, clean public records, and the capacity to project Nigeria honorably on the global stage.
