Among the non-career nominees are prominent public figures such as Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia; Delta-born activist and writer Reno Omokri; former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu; former Ekiti First Lady, Erelu Angela Adebayo; and former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Others include former Katsina House of Assembly Speaker Tasiu Musa Maigari; former Plateau Commissioner Yakubu N. Gambo; former Senator Nora Ladi Daduut; former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Otunba Femi Pedro; and former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

The career diplomats appointed include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu of Abia; Yakubu Nyaku Danladi from Taraba; Miamuna Ibrahim Besto from Adamawa; Musa Musa Abubakar of Kebbi; and Bayelsa’s Syndoph Paebi Endoni. Others are Chima Geoffrey Lioma David from Ebonyi; Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim of Ogun; Abimbola Samuel Reuben from Ondo; Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah of Edo; and Hamza Mohammed Salau from Niger. Continuing the list are Ambassador Shehu Barde from Katsina; Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno of Borno; Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru from Kaduna; Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari of Kwara; and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande from Osun.
The Presidency explained that the combined expertise of former governors, legislators, ministers and long-serving diplomats reflects a deliberate balance between political experience and professional diplomatic competence. The nominees will now be transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation before deployment to Nigerian missions around the world.
These appointments form part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities, deepen international partnerships, attract investment, and enhance the country’s global influence.
