Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have killed four armed militia members and recovered multiple weapons following renewed communal violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State. The deployment was triggered by intelligence reports indicating a resurgence of the long-running land dispute between the Shomo and Wurkun communities, which escalated into property destruction and armed confrontations.

Soldiers encountered gunfire from assailants near the Fadama axis and swiftly returned fire, neutralising four attackers. During subsequent searches, troops recovered three dane guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and two motorcycles.

In a surprising twist, a police officer found operating alongside the armed militia was arrested and is now under investigation to determine his level of involvement. The Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops’ decisive action and reiterated the Army’s determination to restore calm, stating that the Brigade remains committed to “ridding Taraba of criminal elements and ensuring lasting stability.”

Residents of Taraba State have been urged to remain calm, provide credible information to authorities, and support peace efforts as military operations continue under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta.
