Armed bandits have abducted Alhaji Kamilu Salami, the Ojibara of Bayagan in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, and are demanding N150 million for his release. The monarch was seized on Saturday morning while working on his farm.

According to reports, the kidnappers contacted the community on Sunday, allowing the monarch to speak with his people as proof that he was alive. During the call, Oba Salami urged his community to negotiate with the abductors to secure his swift release.

The traditional ruler revealed that he was transported for over five hours on a motorcycle through dense forest before reaching the kidnappers’ hideout. He also disclosed that several other people were abducted from a neighbouring community during the same incident.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that the assailants were armed with AK-47 rifles, and the attack took place around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Bayagan, a major community in Ifelodun LGA, has been left anxious as the negotiations for the monarch’s release have yet to begin.

The incident underscores the growing security challenges facing rural communities in Kwara State, where banditry continues to threaten lives, disrupt livelihoods, and instill fear among residents.
