A simmering political feud appears to be brewing in Edo State as former Governor Godwin Obaseki issued a stern warning to the state’s current governor, Monday Okpebholo, amid reports of escalating tensions between the past and present administrations. Obaseki, speaking in a candid statement to journalists, signaled that he will not remain passive in the face of what he perceives as provocations.

“I don’t know him, and I have never met him before. Tell the governor, Okpebholo, or whatever he calls himself, that when you start with violence, you will reap violence,” Obaseki said, his remarks conveying both defiance and determination. He further stressed that he will actively respond if attacked. “I will not fold my hands while they attack me. I am going to fight back.”

Obaseki recalled that since leaving office, he has refrained from commenting publicly on the affairs of the state’s current administration, giving the new leadership ample room to govern. “Since I left office, I have never said a single word about them; I gave them the chance to do their own,” he added. His statement suggests a growing impatience with what he perceives as undue aggression or marginalization from the current government.

Political analysts note that Obaseki’s remarks could signal an intensifying struggle for influence and control in Edo State’s political landscape. The former governor’s warning underscores the possibility of heightened confrontations if relations between the two leaders deteriorate further. Observers say the unfolding situation could have implications not only for local governance but also for party dynamics and the state’s broader political trajectory.

The statement by Obaseki comes at a time when Edo State is navigating critical governance challenges, and tensions between former and current administrations could impact public perception and political stability in the coming months.
