Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have intercepted a vehicle loaded with a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa during a security operation in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough against organized drug trafficking and related criminality. The operation took place on December 1, 2025, when troops on patrol flagged down a red Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 325LA, suspected to be transporting contraband from Ekiti State en route to Borno State.

According to military authorities, the driver, identified as Mr. Hamisu Sule, attempted to evade arrest by speeding away after sighting the checkpoint. He was pursued by soldiers and eventually apprehended along the Apata–Lokoja road in Lokoja Local Government Area. Upon inspection, troops discovered 306 compressed parcels of Cannabis Sativa, weighing approximately 276 kilograms, inside the vehicle.

The Nigerian Army subsequently handed over both the suspect and the recovered drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further interrogation and prosecution. The action aligns with intensified security operations aimed at disrupting supply chains that enable banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the region.

Speaking on the incident, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to public safety, emphasizing that troops will continue to maintain vigilance across the state. He assured citizens that the Army remains determined to protect communities and ensure criminals “do not operate with impunity.”

The development adds to ongoing security interventions in Kogi State, as authorities reinforce measures to dismantle networks that support organized crime and undermine national stability.
