Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has accused the Presidency of orchestrating a deliberate plot to endanger the life of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. In a statement issued Tuesday, Frank described the recent withdrawal of Atiku’s police security personnel as a “suspicious and dangerous move,” alleging it is part of a “grand scheme to isolate and eliminate him ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

Frank insisted that Atiku, as a former Vice President, is legally entitled to security protection, arguing that no administration since 2007 had interfered with this provision. “This so-called blanket withdrawal is a cover-up. The real objective is to isolate and eliminate Atiku ahead of the 2027 election,” Frank said, adding that the government’s justification for the action does not withstand scrutiny.

He claimed the development reflects a growing trend of political intolerance across Africa, where state institutions are used to suppress opposition voices. According to him, “Atiku has been very vocal… and this withdrawal of security is nothing but political witch-hunt.” Frank further alleged that the country’s security leadership structure is dominated by individuals loyal to the Presidency, suggesting that institutional bias may influence political actions.

The activist called on Nigerians and the international community, including the United States, United Kingdom, African Union, and ECOWAS, to closely monitor the situation. “If anything happens to Atiku Abubakar, this government should be held responsible… Nigeria is entering dangerous territory,” Frank warned.
The Presidency has yet to issue a response to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
