The Anambra State Police Command has announced a series of enforcement measures aimed at enhancing public security and addressing the rising misuse of security uniforms within the state. The development was disclosed on December 9, 2025, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD, following recent security assessments revealing that unauthorized individuals have been donning police and other security uniforms to commit crimes, intimidate residents, and evade lawful scrutiny.
CP Orutugu emphasized that the new directives are designed to ensure proper identification of all security personnel on duty and to eliminate activities of impersonators who endanger public safety. He warned that any person found wearing, selling, or using police or security agency uniforms, kits, or accoutrements without proper authorization will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
The Commissioner reiterated that security uniforms remain classified government property, and unlawful possession is a criminal offense under the law. To reinforce these measures, all Divisional Police Officers, tactical teams, and patrol units across the state have been ordered to intensify visibility policing and conduct thorough verification of personnel identities during operations.
