The African Action Congress (AAC) has strongly condemned the December 7 attacks in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area, and another attack on a church in Lilu, Ihiala LGA of Anambra State. The party described the incidents as “unacceptable” and called for immediate and comprehensive security reforms in the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the AAC’s Publicity Secretary, Anyanwu Chinedu, said residents across Anambra are living in fear as kidnapping, banditry, cult clashes and armed robbery continue to escalate. He noted that communities such as Isseke, Umunze, Ogbunka, Nanka and Awka have witnessed increased criminal activities in recent weeks.

Chinedu urged the state government and security agencies to take decisive action to protect citizens and arrest those responsible for the recent attacks. He stressed the need for stronger community engagement and economic empowerment as part of long-term solutions to insecurity.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. The attacks in Nawfia and at the church in Lilu are unacceptable and demand urgent attention,” he said.

According to the AAC, findings show that armed hoodlums, particularly kidnappers, have been expanding their operations deeper into both rural and urban communities. Some residents interviewed expressed concern that kidnappers now consider the crime a “lucrative business” due to high ransom payments.
