Newly released photographs by suspected bandits show the wife and daughter of the late Anglican Vicar, Ven. Edwin Achi, in apparent captivity, with a machine gun visibly pointed at them. The victims were kidnapped on October 28 at their residence in Nissi, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and have remained in the hands of their abductors since that time.

According to local security sources, the images were circulated online this week, amplifying concerns about the safety of the hostages and the ongoing threat posed by armed groups operating in the area. While the identities of the kidnappers have not been independently verified, the display of firearms in the images underscores the continued danger faced by the victims.

Authorities in Kaduna State have reiterated that security forces are pursuing all leads to secure the safe release of the family. Efforts include coordinated operations with local vigilante groups and intelligence gathering to track the movement of the armed bandits. Despite these efforts, no ransom or negotiation updates have been publicly confirmed.

Community leaders and religious organisations have condemned the act, describing it as a “heinous and deeply disturbing violation” of human rights and local peace. They continue to appeal for swift government intervention to rescue the captives and prevent further attacks on vulnerable families in Chikun LGA.

Security analysts note that the case highlights a persistent pattern of high-profile kidnappings in Kaduna State, often targeting clergy and their families, with the intent to extract ransoms or make political statements. The ongoing captivity of Ven. Achi’s family underscores the urgent need for enhanced protective measures, rapid response capabilities, and sustained intelligence operations across the region to combat such threats.
