The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Abubakar, for allegedly attempting to purchase 1,000 rounds of ammunition intended for armed bandits operating in Zamfara State. The arrest, made earlier this week, highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to disrupt the supply chains that sustain criminal networks in the northwestern region.

According to police sources, Abubakar was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in Abuja. Investigators discovered that the suspect had been in contact with individuals linked to bandit groups, and was planning to facilitate the delivery of the ammunition to armed gangs responsible for multiple attacks, kidnappings, and killings in Zamfara. The confiscated ammunition was reportedly intended to replenish the stockpiles of these groups.

The FCT Police Command confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and is cooperating with investigators. Charges are expected to be filed for arms trafficking, conspiracy, and aiding criminal activities. Authorities have also pledged to continue monitoring arms markets and online networks to prevent similar incidents.

Security analysts have noted that intercepting attempts to supply weapons to bandits is a critical component of broader counter-insurgency and anti-banditry efforts. By cutting off access to arms, law enforcement agencies aim to weaken the operational capacity of armed groups and protect vulnerable communities across Zamfara and neighboring states.

Residents and vigilante groups have been urged to remain alert and report suspicious activities, particularly concerning arms deals and the movement of weapons, to help security forces prevent the escalation of violence in affected regions.
